Football Card Displays
Although I love collecting football cards, one of the most irritating things about card collecting is that once you buy or complete a set it goes into a box, rarely to see the light of day. Well, I vowed to not let that happen, so when my wife and I built our home back in 2007, one of the things I wanted to do was build a bar in the basement that had shadow boxes built into it for displaying my cards. The only prerequsite was that the set had to be complete to be displayed. And up to this point, I've only displayed autograph sets or memorabilia sets.
1992 Proline Profiles Jr. Seau Autograph Set:
A 9-card set with a BV of $225.00
I was a big fan of Junior Seau long before his passing in 2012. In my opinion, he was one of the greatest players to ever play the linebacker position. I was extremely upset when the Vikings weren't in position to draft Junior in 1990. Therefore, because I was such a huge fan of Junior, he was the very first player to have his own card display.
1997 Proline Emerald Autograph Set:
A 45-card set with a BV of $2,000.00
This 45-card set was actually the first Proline set I displayed. It's also the largest complete Autograph set I've displayed. That will definitely change one of these days, but as of today, it holds the record.
2001 Playoff Honors Game Day Jerseys Set:
A 50-card set with a BV of $1,120.00
The 2001 Playoff Honors Game Day Souvenirs set has been the largest set I've displayed so far. Completing a 50-card set takes a long time to complete, especially when it's either a memorabilia set or an autograph set. Still to this date, it's the largest.
2002 Fleer Box Score Press Clippings Jersey Set:
A 15-card set with a BV of $172.00
The 2002 Fleer Box Score Press Clippings Jersey set was a memorabilia set that I bought complete. It's a whole lot easier to do it that way.....if, (and that's a big if), you can find it. This set is easily the least expensive set that I have displayed.
2001 Donruss Classics Team Colors Autograph Set:
A 5-card set with a BV of $295.00
I don't normally collect autograph parallel sets, but here is one that I did. The 2001 Donruss Classics Team Colors Autograph set was / still is a true gem. I had to display it. I just couldn't figure out why Kurt Warner's card had a sticker while the others did not. Nevertheless, a 5-card set is completely do-able, as far as, completing.
1997 upper Deck UD3 Signature Performers Autograph Set:
A 4-card set with a BV of $300.00
You might think that a simple 4-card set is super easy to complete. That might be true, except for two things, 1) It's an autograph set. All bets are off when it comes to autograph cards. And, 2) it's from Upper Deck. Upper Deck is super secretive / stingy / unpredictable when it comes to cards in their sets. So here is one that wasn't so hard to complete.
1999 Skybox Dominion Hats Off Memorabilia Set:
A 6-card set with a BV of $500.00
One of the best sets from the '99 season. This set was a first; it held pieces of the "Draft Day Caps" and it was also one of the best sets to capture the top draft selections from that year. So naturally, it had to be displayed.
1999 Leaf Rookies & Stars John Elway Collection Set:
A 5-card set with a BV of $600.00
The 2nd set that I've displayed that featured a player was the John Elway Collection from the 1999 Leaf Rookies & Stars release.
1992 Proline Profiles Christian O'Koye Autograph Set + Extras:
A 9-card set with a BV of $108.00
The 3rd set that I've displayed that featured a player was the Christian O'Koye Profiles autograph set from the 1992 Proline Profiles release. I added a few extra items to this diaplay. Christain O'Koye was a headliner for a Menard's store grand opening in Wichita in 2011. I, of course, had to be there. I was lucky enough to grab a picture and have him sign a few cards. Thanks, Christian!!
1989-1992 Football Error & Corrected Versions:
A 10-card display with a BV of Unknown
This marks the 1st display that wasn't necessarily a set. This display was a collection of error cards and their corrected version. I displayed it for a Super Bowl party back in January 2016.
